Computing Group – Building Websites – Local Server Method

The techy bit (don't worry it's easy to follow!)

Websites can be built 'remotely' i.e. by making changes to the 'site live with the hosting company. However this requires:

  • An internet connection
  • Registering a domain name
  • Renting space from a hosting company to then store your website files on their remote server somewhere in the world.

Whilst learning there is a cheaper way…

You can download software that creates a server on your own computer. The benefits are:

  • No need to the internet
  • No need to register a domain name
  • No need rent space from a hosting company
