Interest Groups - More Information
The life blood of any U3A are the Interest Groups. Some U3A's call 'Interest Groups' by another name, i.e. 'Study Groups'.
It doesn't really matter what they are called. The critical thing is that finding interests and activities that can help you keep your mind and body active, and learning new skills, is part of the fun of living a full life.
Every U3A member probably has several interests they'd like to involve themselves in. It could be to take up a language or to develop better skills at 'doing something'. Or perhaps to have the opportunity to get a bit of exercise in the company of others? Or to attend other activities in the company of like-minded people.
At Chalfonts U3A we believe that friendship and fun are a brilliant combination. Someone once said, "A stranger is a friend I've yet to meet…", so If you want to make new friends as well as educate and entertain yourself the U3A gives plenty of opportunity to make new friends.
Whatever your own reasons for joining the U3A are, you can rest assured that you are in good company.
Group Convenors
Above all every group needs a coordinator. The person who leads a group doesn't have to be an expert in whatever the group want to do. The critical thing is that the leader encourages everyone to participate and to involve themselves.
Interest Groups don't just happen. They need effort and commitment if they're going to work for the benefit of the group.
