Since the web began (back in 1991!) web browsers have travelled a long way. In the beginning, and for many years, you had to type in http://www all the time. Now, you don't have to do that; all you do is type in the website you want in the URL (that stands for Uniform Resource Locator) and, if the website exists, it will load it for you.
