Social Media
For individuals, social media is used to keep in touch with friends and extended family.
Some people will use various social media applications to network career opportunities, find people across the globe with like interests, and share their thought, feelings, insight, and emotions.
Warning…the owners of any social media program/application want you to spend your (whole) life on their pages.
Why? Because whilst they offer the content for 'free', (and much of it is provided by us!) it does come at a price.
- They want you to spend as much time as possible on their pages and, secondly
- They want to make money and they do this by placing adverts on their pages (Always remember that there's no such thing as a free lunch!)

Twitter Tutorial for Beginners
When it was developed Twitter used the idea of a simple mobile 'phone text message, which allowed 140 characters, to communicate their message to the world. This was felt to be enough text to engage the eye and the mind for a few seconds. It then allowed the person who read the message to 're-tweet' it on their own feed, i.e. to let their own 'followers' read it and to then do the same if they wished.
A while back they increased the message length to 280 characters from the original 140 allowed.
This video will take you through the main elements of Twitter.

This video will take you through the main elements of Instagram.
