Computing – Password Management

The Problem with Passwords Since the birth of computing we have used a login name and password to secure our access to systems and prevent unauthorised users from accessing our data. This was fine when we only accessed one or two systems, but with the advent of the internet and the explosion in the number sites we now access passwords have become a legacy millstone which is unlikely to change soon. Most people have an excess of fifty sites they have to remember the passwords for, at the last count I have two hundred and fifty-one. A recent survey showed that 80% of users aged 18 and up use the SAME password across multiple sites. This is a major issue because if one account becomes compromised then access to all your other sites are at risk. The two links below include the original power point presentation about Computer Security and password management. The second document covers the setup and configuration of a very good password manager called LastPass.
